Sockets

The holes in your gear, the effects they take, and how to change them.

ItemsMonstersNPCsSocketsSublimations

A socket is a hole in an item that holds an effect, and each effect gives one stat. An item can have up to 4 sockets, but not every item gets that many: the number is rolled at random, and four is uncommon. Each socket's colour decides which effects it takes.

Which effect goes in each colour

This is how the workshop lists them when you click a socket. Each effect doubles in two specific slots. Watch the resistances: their colour does not follow their element.

WhiteA white socket takes any effect, of any colour, and counts as any colour in a sublimation.

The doubled bonus is what actually decides

Watch what a level 11 HP effect does: 88 in Amulet, 176 in Helmet. The same effect at the same shard cost, for twice the result.

Dodge and Lock double in both rings.

How high an effect can go

An effect's maximum level depends on the item's level, not yours, and the last level arrives very late.

How to change them: the Enchantment Workshop

Sockets, effects and sublimations are changed at an Enchantment Workshop. Find one on the map, open it and pick an item from your inventory or your equipment: the workshop only lists items that can be enchanted, and the item must be identified. Once it is picked, the workshop has three tabs.

BlueWhiteBlueRedThis is how the workshop shows an item's sockets: here, blue, white, blue and red.

Effects: what goes in each socket

Each socket has its own column. Click one and choose an effect of its colour: switching effects costs nothing.

Levelling up does: each level is paid in shards, and the next one costs more. Lower the level or remove the effect and you get back 90% of what it cost.

The maximum level is set by the item's level (see the table above).

Sockets: how many, what colour, in what order

This is where charges are spent. Sacrificing an identical item, which must be in your inventory, gives 7 charges, and with them you can:

  • Increase the number of sockets. It is random, never goes down, and keeps the colours you already had. Reaching four is rare.
  • Recolor all the sockets, each with its own roll, or just one, which can never turn white.
  • Change the order: the colours stay and only their positions change, also at random. Order matters for sublimations.

Sockets must be empty to be modified, and the sockets of an item bearing a sublimation cannot be changed.

Sublimations

Shows the sublimations that can be used on the item, and is where the one it already has is removed or swapped.

A sublimation you remove or swap out is lost for good.

How sublimations work

Wakfu and all names, images and data are the property of Ankama. Items, recipes and gathering resources come from the game's public data archive; monster loot and harvesting come from the official Spanish encyclopedia; the machines, their prices and what comes out of another item come from the community wiki wakfu.wiki.gg, which is also where the icons Ankama does not publish for tokens come from.

Effect values come from Gearfu, an open-source build maker that reproduces the game's own maths. The workshop rules are the game's own help. If you spot a difference with the game, tell us.
